There are great airports to visit within class C airspace and operating within the airspace is relatively easy if you know the rules. Class C airspace areas are generally designed as two circles centered around the primary airport [Figure 1] Inner core: 5 Nautical Mile (NM) radius; Shelf area: 10 NM radius; Horizontal boundaries of class C airspace are delineated with a solid magenta line; Vertical Limits: Se hela listan på lfv.se 1500 ft AMSL – 4500 ft AMSL: Class D airspace. 4500 ft AMSL – FL95: Class E airspace. 6. 5. Class E* All high level controlled airspace above FL600 within t he SCA, NCA and ACA. Class C Airspace. Class C Airspace is generally that airspace from the surface to 4,000 feet above the airport elevation (charted in MSL) surrounding those airports that have an operational control tower, are serviced by a radar approach control, and have a certain number of IFR operations or passenger enplanements. Class B, C, and D airspace is the controlled airspace surrounding most towered airports, and some sort of communication with either a control tower or air traffic control is required to enter. Class A is airspace from 18,000ft MSL up to 60,000ft MSL (FL600), and ATC clearance, along with an IFR flight plan, is required to enter class A. Class C airspace never requires a separate clearance. If you are in two-way communications with the controlling facility, you satisfy the requirements for authorization through Class C airspace.

www.asf.org The airspace above the United States can seem as complex and convoluted as a soap opera plot. With a little study, 2019-07-31 Class C airspace usually consists of a five-mile-radius core surface area that extends from the surface up to 4,000 feet AGL, and a 10-mile-radius shelf area that extends from 1,200 feet up … Class C airspace covers busy airports, which usually have a mix of airline and general aviation traffic. Class C airspace is considerably smaller than Class B airspace, and Air Traffic Control does not provide the same level of separation service as you would find in Class B airspace.

The FAA designates the various classes of controlled airspace to allow ATC to provide separation services to instrument flight rules (IFR) and, in the case of class B and C airspace, VFR traffic. Controlled airspace surface areas have a high number of arriving and departing aircraft at altitudes below 500 feet and rely on ATC to assess and mitigate the associated risk.

Class C airspace is similar to class B, but lower; generally a cylinder around the airport that is 5 miles in diameter extending from the surface to 1,200 feet AGL, and expanding to a cylinder 10 miles in diameter from that point to 4,000 feet AGL. Class C airspace is represented on sectional charts as a thick magenta (purple) line.
The inner core is a 5NM radius of the primary airport from the surface to 4,000 feet above the primary airport. The outer ring is a 10 NM radius shelf that starts (at least) 1,200 feet above the primary airport.
