Welcome to Guy’s and St Thomas’ for King’s Health Partners Histopathology specialty training programme. This post graduate specialty programme provides trainees with the skills, experience and training to prepare you for a career in Histopathology.
Both require prior education in the histology field, either through attending a histology program, or acquiring laboratory experience in the field. In order to become a histotechnologist, you’ll need to have a bachelor’s degree and certification from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited program. Certification is highly recommended for any individuals pursuing a career in histotechnology. Certification is obtained through the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Certified histologists must complete continuing education every three years to maintain histology certification. Maintains histopathology records and instruments. To become a certified histotechnologist you must qualify for one of two ASCP exam routes, either by completing a histology program or earning credits in biology and chemistry with a year of laboratory experience.
